I am a graduate of Columbia University (Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature) and of Yale University (Master's in Slavic Languages and Literatures).
Experience
I have taught Russian Language for four years at Yale University and I am thoroughly familiar with all aspects of second language acquisition. I have developed multimedia teaching aids for my students, which make the learning process fun. I think that immersion into language works better than explanations of grammar (though we do some of those as well). I left teaching to raise my four children but I enjoy part-time tutoring, especially tutoring Russian, French and Math K-12, including SAT preparation (I was initially majoring in Math and my SAT score was 799 out of 800). I love working with kids and helping them succeed. I have tutored math for many years to all ages, from elementary school kids to college students. I think the reason many students struggle with math is that they have missed the basics. Math has its inner logic and I am always helping my students to understand why we do this or that instead of just memorizing a bunch of formulas that do not make sense. For elementary school math, I have unique visual aids, used in private schools in Russia and Canada, that work especially well for children who have difficulty concentrating or sitting still.
