EducationI am a graduate of Columbia University (Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature) and of Yale University (Master's in Slavic Languages and Literatures).
ExperienceI have taught Russian Language for four years at Yale University and I am thoroughly familiar with all aspects of second language acquisition. I have developed multimedia teaching aids for my students, which make the learning process fun. I think that immersion into language works better than explanations of grammar (though we do some of those as well).
I left teaching to raise my four children but I enjoy part-time tutoring, especially tutoring Russian, French and Math K-12, including SAT preparation (I was initially majoring in Math and my SAT score was 799 out of 800). I love working with kids and helping them succeed.
I have tutored math for many years to all ages, from elementary school kids to college students. I think the reason many students struggle with math is that they have missed the basics. Math has its inner logic and I am always helping my students to understand why we do this or that instead of just memorizing a bunch of formulas that do not make sense. For elementary school math, I have unique visual aids, used in private schools in Russia and Canada, that work especially well for children who have difficulty concentrating or sitting still.
HobbiesI love gardening, and spending time with my family.
